Flamengo sign world’s second fastest player

According to a study gathered out of Pachuca (MEX), Flamengo’s newest Colombian signing, Orlando Berrío is the world’s second fastest footballer.

The study, which was controversial to say the least, states that the 26-year-old right winger and former Atlético Nacional-COL player, who helped them claim the throne as champions of South America in 2016, has had bursts of speed recorded at 36 km/h, therefore being labeled second fastest footballer behind Real Madrid & Wales’ Gareth Bale, with speeds recorded at 36,9 km/h.

The study has been viewed by some as controversial due to the simple fact that these numbers are far too close to the ones seen by the world’s fastest man alive, Olympian track & field star, Usain Bolt of Jamaica.

According to the study, close behind were speedy players such as Pachuca & Mexico’s own Jürgen Damm (35,2 km/h) who ranked 3rd, Man United & Ecuador’s Antonio Valencia (35,1 km/h), and Dortmund & Gabon’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in 5th at 34,6 km/h. Just to measure up, the world’s best player in activity, Lionel Messi has been recorded at speeds of 32,5 km/h.

Now, if the study is indeed accurate, Flamengo are in for an absolutely marvelous year this 2017. Not only have they made it to the Copa Libertadores with a spectacular roster in hand, but the Rio de Janeiro giants also have left winger Everton, a player already considered to be the Brazilian League’s fastest player two years ago. With such weaponry in their squad arsenal – Paolo Guerrero, Trauco, Diego (Ribas), Mancuello, now Berrío plus the grand majority of those helping them attain the position of 3rd best in the league last year -, we could be seeing a Libertadores title contender in the making finally hailing out of South America’s 3rd largest city again after 19 years.
